Scalable from 420 TB to 3.3 PB
The SXL-8500 Series of LTO archives is a highly expandable solution for large scale video applications. The base models have 420 TB of near-line LTO capacity and scale to 3.3 PB by adding library expansion modules. The fully expanded SXL-8500 library capacity is equivalent to over 70,000 hours of HD video, recorded at 100 Mbits/s. When used in video surveillance applications, it is suitable for centralized storage of systems with many hundreds of cameras and long retention times.
Wide Application Compatibility and Standard NAS Architecture
The SXL-8500 Series has a network attached storage (NAS) architecture, connecting to the network via 1 GbE or 10 GbE. Powered by XenData6 Server software, it has a standard file and folder interface for both archive and restore operations. This means that it is compatible with a wide range of applications used in the video surveillance and media industry including most media asset management systems. Video files can also be archived and restored manually using Windows Explorer or an FTP utility. In addition to the file-folder interface, the SXL-8500 Series has an object storage interface that provides a very tight integration with third party applications as well as direct data paths to primary storage.
Powered by the SX-550 Series of Archive Servers
An SXL-8500 system is powered by an SX-550 Series Archive Server which runs a Windows Server 2012 R2 operating system and XenData6 Server software. It has a 4.8 TB to 240 TB RAID cache which is used intelligently to provide fast archive and restore operations. Archiving occurs at the speed of RAID without any of the delays associated with the access time of LTO cartridges. Restoring multiple files is optimized in the system, as files are read from LTO in tape order, minimizing total tape movement.
Scale by adding Library Expansion Modules and LTO-7 Drives
The SXL-8500 Series library is designed for mounting in standard 19 inch racks, taking from 6 to 42 U. The 420 TB base model consists of a 2 U server and an expandable 6 U robotic LTO library with two LTO-7 drives. It can be fully expanded to 3.3 PB of near-line LTO capacity by adding six 6 U expansion modules to the robotic library. The SXL-8500 system may be configured with up to 10 LTO-7 drives.
