Device Driver Installation for XenData Server Software

Installation Prerequisites XenData Hardware

Ensure that the tape hardware is connected to the server. For SAS connections you must have point to point connections, for Fibre channel you can connect via a switch, however our recommendation is also point to point. The tape hardware must be powered on and in a ready state.

Tape Drive Drivers

Depending on the drive type within the library you will need to load the appropriate drivers, If the library contains HP drives, please follow the section called HP, if the library has IBM drives please follow the section called IBM.

HP XenData Hardware

Download the zipped device driver installation files from the link below to a folder on the C: drive of the Server.

Note: This will download driver version 1.0.7.1. Do not use 1.0.7.2 as we have found issues with that version.

» For LTO 4/5/6 drives download cp020353.exe

Now double click on the downloaded file to launch the HP Storage Tape Drives for Windows utility, click 'Extract' and select a location on the C: drive for the extracted files.

Launch Windows Device Manager and install the LTO tape drive device driver for the first drive as described below.

  • Right-click on 'My Computer' and select 'Manage'.

  • Select Device Manager from the left pane and find the LTO drive; it will be in 'Other Devices' or 'Tape drives' in the right pane.

  • Right click on the device and select 'Update Driver Software...'

  • Select 'Browse my computer for driver software' and browse to the location of the extracted files. Then select the 'W2K8R2-x64' folder and click 'OK'. Then enable 'Include sub-folders' and click 'Next'.

  • A message will be displayed 'Windows has successfully installed your driver software'. Then click 'Close'.

Repeat this process for each drive.

IBM XenData Hardware

The server operating system may install Microsoft device drivers for any attached IBM tape drives and will install a XenData driver for the tape library's medium changer. The tape drive drivers should be changed as described here.

Download the zipped device driver installation files from the link below to a folder on the C: drive of the Server.

» Download device driver - Windows 2008 R2

» Download device driver - Windows 2012 R2

Unzip the files. Browse to the 'install_exclusive.exe' file and right-click on it. Select 'Run as administrator'. The program will launch a command line window and then display 'Program Successful'.

This completes the installation of an IBM device driver.

Note that if connections to the SAS or Fibre ports on the rear of the server are swapped, it may be necessary to reinstall the driver.

Library Drivers XenData Hardware

Windows Server 2008 R2 and Server 2012 R2 use digitally signed drivers, so the XenData library driver will be automatically used when the hardware is attached.
