XenData Cloud File Gateway and Azure

XenData Cloud File Gateway software runs on a Windows server or VM and delivers advanced functionality when used with Azure blob storage.

A gateway for file-based apps to use Azure blob storage

In a simple configuration, you can run file-based applications on your on-premises network (or Azure VM) and write to and read from Azure blob storage. The gateway manages a local disk cache that provides enhanced performance and minimizes egress fees. It will manage up to 2 billion files and is ideal for large unstructured files including video. The gateway supports partial file restore, allowing video files to be played directly from the cloud.

Synchronizes remote uploads to on-premises networks

By running a XenData service on the gateway that integrates with an Azure API, files uploaded to an Azure container by third-party applications will be synchronized to the gateway file system. For example, files can be uploaded to an Azure container from a remote site, and those files will appear automatically in the gateway file system as stub files available for access on the on-premises network.

Manages Hot, Cool and Archive Tiers

Files may be moved between Azure storage tiers via a gateway UI or API. Migration options include expedited and standard re-hydration from the Archive Tier to Cool or Hot.

Multi-Site Sync

By adding the XenData Multi-Site Sync service, files and folders stored in Azure Blob storage may be synchronized across multiple gateways. It provides file sharing across multiple sites and applications running in the cloud, boosting the productivity of distributed teams by enabling them to seamlessly share and synchronize files across all locations. With every gateway kept consistently in sync, users at each facility will think they’re working on one big local file server.

Compatible with other standard applications

XenData Cloud File Gateway writes to blob storage containers in a standardized way making it compatible with Azure containers created by other standard applications such as Azure Storage Explorer and AzCopy, as well as file transfers via Azure Data Box.
