Azure object storage is termed BLOB storage, an acronym for Binary Large Object storage. Microsoft offers many options within its Blob storage services which can complicate obtaining cost estimates. With our calculator, we have kept it simple.
You can purchase Azure object storage directly from Microsoft by signing up online for a pay-as-you-go (PAYG) subscription. Alternatively, we at XenData can provide the same Azure storage at a lower cost and with the same no-commitment billing.
The above calculator does not include the Cloud File Gateway subscription.
Notes and Assumptions
- Costs are for the Cool and Hot Storage tiers both of which give instant access to your files; for a low-cost region such as Central US, East US 2, South Central US, West Central US or West US 2; for Locally Redundant Storage (LRS) which stores three instances in a single location; and for a Blob Storage Account.
- Costs for operations are not included. These are typically relatively low when storing large files, such as video files. For exact costs, please refer to the Blob Storage Calculator link below.
- Cost for restores to on-premises include outbound data transfer bandwidth charges from Azure Zone 1.
- Cost for restores to the Cloud assume that the target is in the same Azure Zone and that no bandwidth charges are applicable. For more details, refer to the Bandwidth Calculator link below.
