When migrating from an archive that uses the LTFS format to a new XenData system, the process is very easy. The tapes are automatically recognized as LTFS by the XenData system and index catalogs are created. Then, after a few clicks in the XenData Management Console, the contents of the tapes are available within the XenData archive file system. And, if required, the contents can be seamlessly repacked to the latest generation of LTO.
Unfortunately, many existing LTO archives were not written using the LTFS format. They were written using a legacy (proprietary) format. Over the last few years, we have migrated many archives with legacy formatted tapes to a replacement XenData system and have developed software to be able to read several proprietary formats, including those used by Active Circle, Atempo, Cache A and DIVA.
