Using Kaspersky Endpoint Security with XenData Archive Series Software including Cloud File Gateway

Updated Jun. 30, 2020

Overview

When installing antivirus (AV) protection on a XenData system, it is important to choose an AV solution that has been certified. XenData Archive Series software and AV software use file system filtering techniques and there may be undesirable interactions if you use an AV product that has not been certified.

The Antivirus and Antispyware module of Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Windows (Version 11) has been certified for use with XenData Archive Series software, version 7. This technical note describes how to configure Endpoint Protection and the XenData archive to provide effective antivirus protection.

AV Functions

Kaspersky Endpoint Security, like most AV software, performs two basic functions:

  • Continuous Monitoring

Detects files containing malware when written to and read from the computer. It then takes actions to disinfect or quarantine the file.

  • Scanning

Scanning may be configured as an on-demand operation which scans file systems on the computer to detect any files containing malware.

Continuous Monitoring

Kaspersky Endpoint Security may be used for continuous monitoring. It provides effective detection of files written to and read from the XenData volume.

Scanning

When scanning, Kaspersky Endpoint Security restores all files, even files that have the offline attribute set. Users should be aware that when set to scan the XenData managed volume, it will restore all files represented as a stub file from LTO, ODA or cloud object storage (as applicable).
